In 1842, John Herschel introduced the cyanotype process, but it was Anna Atkins who first transformed it into a photographic medium, creating remarkable studies of botanical specimens. Despite her pioneering achievements, her place in the history of photography remained largely overlooked for generations.
With Ode to Anna, Dai Scheffer pays tribute to Atkins and the many women whose contributions have been undervalued or forgotten. Through the luminous blue tones of cyanotype and the delicate language of botanical forms, the series reflects on memory, femininity, and recognition. Each work is both an act of gratitude and a quiet attempt to restore a history that deserves to be seen.
